Oh, we're not immigrants. I can trace my lineage back as far as the Edo period, when my ancestor came to possess the spiritual lands we still oversee today. That ancestor was also born in Japan.

[The late 1700s, to be precise, but she doesn't need to mention that. Nom nom. She's glad she added orange to this dish, it gives the meal an interesting tang.]

Among mage society, however, Japan is considered backwater. There's a strong European influence to mage culture, and as we learned our craft from them, we adopted many of their aesthetic tastes as well.
