Who of you chucklefucks actually celebrates Thanksgiving? Or something close to it? 'cause I'unno about you but I'm seriously craving some bombass turkey and pumpkin pie.

Canadian?

Yeah. I mean, I moved to America about... a little over a year ago, year and a half? But I was born and raised for most of my life in Montreal.

Huh.

How different is it? Assuming you've actually experienced the American version, that is.

I haven't, but I've watched enough TV to get an idea, I think? It seems pretty similar, just that we don't have the thing with Pilgrims.

Noooo no, I mean what's the history behind it? Whatever classes I paid attention to in school didn't cover Canadian holidays.

Oh. I think it was... one of those guys looking for the Northwest Passage? And basically his ship got stuck and when they got rescued he was like "guys we gotta give thanks to God". And it was sort of but not really a thing, but then some French settlers picked it up. And it was still kind of a thing but not a regular thing and when the Seven Year's War ended, they started celebrating more. But it wasn't a really regular thing until people from America loyal to Britain brought it with them during and after the Revolutionary War.

So basically we kind of took it from America.

Huh. Not somethin' I figured other cultures would snag from us, but I guess if you're gonna jack another country's holiday, might as well make it the one that has the most food, right?

It's a pretty good holiday, yeah. My dad and I never really did much for it, but he was usually on call, anyway.

Kind of hard to focus on dinner when someone needs a body stored in the freezer downstairs until they can have the funeral.

It was a big deal for my house 'cause Mom didn't always get off work for it. Sometimes we'd have to have it like, a week in advance just because of her schedule, but she always made sure it happened no matter what.

Dad owned a funeral home. We lived above it since he was always on call. Sometimes I'd help out.
