[The first sign that something might be wrong is the fact that, rather than a soft chime to indicate an incoming message, the phone you’re so reliant on lets out a rather ear splitting screech.

And then the panting starts. Soft, laborious. For those who take the time to hold onto their phones, the altogether unpleasant sensation of your ribs caving in on one side is rather prominent; despite the pretty surroundings of a tree covered mountain-side that wavers back and forth with every ungainly step by the feed’s creator, your side is burning under the tight weight of your own arm pressed against it; the only brace you have, in case more damage has been done than you’ve expected. In case letting up on that same pressure would be enough to send you straight to the ground under the pain, and who knows?

You might not get back up.

The mountain has a slope to it that just makes this all the more difficult; of course it does. It’s a mountain, but you’ve made your choice, and you’re not stopping now.

You’re….you’re not stopping now.

But you need to stop for a second. Air is a necessary factor in motion, and you’re struggling to gain that much.

Looking down, you note that, at the very least, the blood that had soaked through most of the front of your tatty sweater is...dry. Your lips wobble with the distinct urge to smile, and the somewhat hysterical giggle that bubbles past your lips is one you immediately regret.

Time to keep going. There’s no path for you to follow, just patches between the trees and the overgrowth of wild plants for you to slowly navigate your way around, hyper aware of anything with the potential to cause you to fall.

Then the ground starts levelling out. Your shoes meet a lip of rock, taking your focus from the few feet immediately in front of you to take in what you’ve found. A cave. The opening is wide, and vast, and altogether a little threatening, despite the fact that natural light appears to be pouring in from somewhere deeper into it. For someone not looking to be found, it’s the perfect hideaway.

And you are certainly not looking to be found.

[The broken bones and blood hadn't surprised him, at the time. (Well, that's not exactly true. He'd felt sick looking at it all, but only because it was new to him.) The height they'd fallen from- well, it was amazing to find them alive. Asriel had been too busy searching for reassurances and attempting to share their weight to take note of the fact that a lot of the blood had dried already.

It's not that this presents him with entirely new information, exactly. It's more that it fills in some murky areas.

Before: Humans hurt them.

Now: Humans made them bleed. They broke their bones. There was a burning in their body and a hole in their heart.

When he comes back to himself, Asriel can still hear the sickly laughter, and his cheeks are wet. He scans the room for Chara, and realises he is alone. He stops laughing.]
