I arrived here not long ago but have been spending time...getting to know the place.

As I understand it we are at a war of sorts with a dark queen.

I see there are already trained warriors here who are willing to teach the art of combat. Consider me among them. Should anyone desire to use a sword, you need only find me.

I seem to be hearing that from people quite a bit.

If it is true that not many of us can fight I think teaching how is all the more important.

I've noticed not a lot of people are used to this sort of thing.

I am, but that's only because it's my second time getting conscripted in to someone else's battle. And that time we didn't really have a whole lot of room to learn so we had to do it as we went.

A circumstance not unlike my own. I've often been made to fight but one does learn to make the most of it.

Sooo... what sort of combat do you teach?

My specialty lies with swordplay but I am a capable archer as well.

Oh. That might be better for Keith then. All I've got is this.

It's called a Bayard. I don't really know how it works entirely, but it has something to do with bio-metric signatures and recognizing the user.

It takes on the form "best suited" to the user. Mine works as a small blade, taser and hook shot.

I used to be really good at magic. And now I can't really do it at all. So while I'm learning again, I'd like to be able to fight another way. Haha, so I guess the proper answer is that I can't fight at all. Is that okay?

Magic is a potent force when honed to mastery. I think you would do well to continue to study it.

Have you ever used a bow?

I'd be starting from scratch, but I still think I want to. Do you know someone who teaches that? Or do you teach that as well? Um, I'll pay you back for this with something.

I haven't! But I wanna learn how to use one of those for sure.

[It's actually a really good idea. He could help with the fighting, but stay back far enough that his sibling won't freak out.]

But if you do then a bow or a sling may be more suitable for you. You would be able to help your friends from afar, much as you might have done with spells.

Asriel's kind are not meant for physical fighting. There is potential, even within training, for him to be accidentally harmed.

And he would be very easily harmed.

not everyone is meant for the front lines.

But not everyone need be there either.

Precisely. Hence there being no point in teaching the child to fight.

You worry for him. That is admirable.

What I mean is I could teach him to use a bow or sling and fight from a distance.

I must continue to advise against it. Nor would I be the only dissenting party.

In the heat of battle the children should be kept from harm's way. But harm sometimes finds you regardless and in those times it is best to be brave and know how to defend yourself.

If you are concerned for his safety you are welcome to attend any lessons I may teach as well.

He has others to fight for him.
