hey, it's sans.

y'know, looking back? it's been pretty interesting.

i mean, look at us. we've got some basic amenities, power, even phones and the best internet you can make banging rocks together. we've got a community and everything, hey! nothing quite like the stale smell of desperation to really bring people together. but i've heard more than one of us ask what this war's really good for. for us.

makes a guy think about something other than starrs for a change. (yeah, see what i did there? you just dated yourself.)

anyway there's an actual point to this. see, being a good little soldier really tuckered the kid out, so frisk's gone on a vacation. some of you probably have questions. before you do, i want you to think about how much pressure kids should take. and maybe, y'know, lay off a little.

gotta feeling my phalanges are gonna get tired answering texts for the rest of the day.

[He doesn't have to worry; they're already out the door. And the first location on their agenda is his room- Frisk's room, more importantly. Their steps are quick, just short of running, and they're blind to anyone they might pass on the way, pushing the door open so hard it slams against the wall-

But nobody came.

...A frustrated exhale. There's nothing here; just two empty beds, rumpled from use. One more rumpled than the other.

It's not Sans', for once. There's a little pot on the bedside table; a few flowers growing inside that have yet to bloom...figures that they'd be into taking care of them.

Chara almost leaves when it catches their eye- and closer examination yields...something, at least. Frisk must have dropped the flower under their bed, at some point. No one told them you aren't supposed to cut the stems straight; they live longer if you slice at an angle.]

[...They feel even more uneasy than before, phone held up to their ear. They'll call as many times as it takes for him to pick up.]

Sans.

Where are they?

[ His line is busy the first time. He misses the following call, maybe two. Hard to tell, he just answers with that sort of fuzzy crackle that speaks of wind brushing the receiver. ]

Hey, sunshine. Like I said, with me. Judging from the repeated question, you must be in our room. Sorry, Chara, your partner's in another part of the castle.

[ He pauses, adding a little more soberly: ]

Y'know, when I said let's talk, I meant off the phone.

And despite the repeated question, you don't seem too keen on telling me where that location might be.

[If their inhale sounds shaky, that's just you, Sans. Hearing things.]

So I ask, for the third time; where are they? So we can talk off the phone.

We're on the roof.

[ Meaning Sans, Colin, and the very precious treasure encased in, of all things, a mason jar relieved from the pantry. ]

Fine.

[A pause- they're moments from hanging up before a thought occurs-]

Is there anything else you want to tell me, before I come see it for myself?

[Is there anything that's going to make seeing you a bad idea, right now?]

Just one question.

Didja see any flowers in our room? It, uh, has a lot to do with this vacation.

Flowers?

[They glance down at the one clenched in their fist. It's been sitting a while, but it's still a bit...tacky. Frisk really didn't cut it well.]

I saw a few. Frisk has been handing them out to people, haven't they?

Yeah.

[ There's a pause here, lengthy enough to note. ]

There was one they mentioned made them feel, uh, like trouble was coming. It's probably nothin', but...

The rest can wait.

[...A chill runs down their spine once more, but- honestly. Chara ignores the concept, stuffing the flower up their sleeve; out of sight and out of mind. The only reason they're feeling unsettled is because something's wrong; flowers have nothing to do with it.]
