Video 001: First Shot in the Dark
[ Alright let's see how this works! Prompto has his phone propped up in an area where he can get the angle just right while he records this. He wants to be able to show off the images he has after all. ]
Hey guys, so I know it's not the best quality video, sorry. This whole network thing is weird to get used to.
Anyways! Hi, I'm Prompto! Uh...I'm from a place called Eos, specifically I'm from the Kingdom of Lucis. Before I left there was this thing that has been referred to as a plague...it's called the Starscourge and it's like really bad. Basically it makes the nights longer. For a bout ten years before I got here...we didn't have any sunlight because of this stuff.
Because of that, we had a lot of these things,
[ He holds a picture that looks a lot like the monsters that have been around in the much darker areas ofthe castle. ]
They're called daemons. there are a few different types but....but they are all...
[ He pauses a bit, scratching at his worst before he looks back at the camera. ]
They are created when people or animals are affected by the Starscourge, basically they are parasitized by it and after a while they become daemons. The only cure that has been found was thanks to a person known as the Oracle. I used to know the one back home...well knew of her.
She was my best friends fiance and sort of a celebrity in her own way. Total sweetheart too.
Anyways, these daemons start off as people, like you and me...and then....then those people get sick...and if it isn't treated...well...then you get what we have here.
Daemons can be fought, they can be killed....they just...some are harder than others and some take damage from different things. All will take damage from light based things though, it's why I use Quicksilver here. One of the best guns for tracking moving targets and destroying limbs.
What I'm trying to say is that they are beatable....don't give up. If a scrawny kid like me could fight them for five years, a whole group of us can do it just fine.
Also...if you have any questions I might be able to help.
About the daemons....not much else though...sorry.

Okay wow, I just figured people would want to know what they're up against.
And it's not like that!
I didn't bring shit here, last I saw of home the Starscourge was gone.
As for that last part...for now yeah I guess? I mean unless we can figure out something else.
I just said it was the only cure we found.
I don't know, maybe people from other worlds will be able to help?

Cut a monster some slack, wouldja?
I haven't been feelin' myself lately.

Oh wow.
[ Sorry Sans, Prompto is staring. He's never seen something like you before. The skeletons from his world are daemons and they will try to kill you before you even get tot try to talk to them.
However the more he looks the more he see's familiar signs. ]
I'm sorry.

I ain't interested in your pity, pal. I want answers.
I wanna know how this parasite works. What stops it, how your Oracle fixes people up. Everything we could'a used last week or the week before.
no subject
Answers I can give.
As for how the parasite works, I'm not completely sure. All we know is that there is some correlation between the photophilic particles that are the cause of the blight and a mutant strand of plasmodium that is responsible for the daemons. The daemons, when killed, disperses a bunch of the particles.
As for how Lady Luna did it....the Oracle was given gifts by the Astrals to 'cleanse' people. They were things that you had to be born with and it was all through a families blood lines.
[ He's going to ignore the jab at his timing, because seriously...he's done dealing with that. ]

Names, nice. Implies they're observable. [ And, turns out they are, if he's right about these particles being seen scattering after a daemon -- a monster that used to be somebody until they got sick, was put down. ] What this oracle of yours had, what was it? Magic? Some kinda antibody?
no subject
This isn't his territory. ]
Oh yeah, we had people working on trying to study it, unfortunately most of that didn't start until it was a bunch of us huddling in well lit towns.
[ There's a pause before he continues on. ]
They were innate abilities...so yeah a special kind of magic.

[ He's feeling like hell warmed over -- and... like maybe he owes this guy an apology.
If he kicks the bucket, none of it will matter. ]
See ya.

[ Prompto really does feel bad. He should have come out with the info sooner. Maybe then they'd have more of a chance...somehow. ]
Just hang in there alright? I know this probably doesn't help at all, but this place could change it right?
From what I'm used to?
[audio]
[ That's the skeleton's usual, Brooklyn-inspired drawl, all lazy, apathetic rumble and little commitment, albeit rusty with sickness. But his tone thickens with something else, next: anger. ]
Who'dya figure I should take it out on? You volunteering, pal?
Last I checked, YOU ain't the guy with 5 HP and a sickness eatin' you alive. So, heh heh. No.
You don't GET to tell me I'm outta line.
[ Anger comes more readily than despair. Hell, that'd kill him quicker than the magical space flu. ]
no subject
And yeah, as another matter of fact, I DO get to tell you you're outta line. When I see you acting in way that would make Papyrus sad, you're godsdamned right I'm gonna speak up about it. No matter how much you think otherwise, you're better than that.
You're tired, I get that. You're sick, I get that too. You're pissed off, totally fair. Quit proving Undyne right.

2/3
Yeah... You've done it before. [ Rooftop. Someone else was there. Someone who... he... it doesn't matter. ] Time to mix up your act, pal.
3/3
Invoking my brother..? [ And the woman who tried to kill him over a grossly incorrect suspicion, who also invoked his brother like this, that's just icing on this shit cake. ]
And here I thought I was the monster.
1/2
Or maybe you're just lost from no longer knowing what's gonna happen before the chronotons realign?
So let's make a couple of things clear.
2/2
Two. You never considered that maybe I love you to the fullest extent that a computer-scrambled brain like me is capable, did you? That maybe it hurts me watching you circle the drain?
Three. You wanna know what I'm doing here, right this very moment? I was trying to keep you from falling down. Trying to find the slim sliver of you that still gives a damn. The part of you that isn't a complete shitheel. So that one day you WILL see your brother again.
'Cause you're not fooling anyone. After everyone you've lost these last two months? It's not hard to see that the life preserver of hope you've been clinging to has sprung a leak. Be mad at me, you won't be the first or the last. But I'd rather you be alive and mad than a pile of dust, and it doesn't take me to see how much you've been needing Wade to keep you going lately.
Now... Well, now I have no idea what I'm doing. Still trying to reach you, I guess. I'm REALLY bad at this by the way, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna fail royally. But I am no longer able to stomach watching you do this to yourself. Everyone's got the right to choice. Everyone's got the right to live or die as they see fit. But that doesn't mean I gotta like it.
And that brings us to point four. We're all in the monster manual somewhere. My entry happens to be between elemental, and ethereal filcher. Neither of us is going to deny it. But I think I'm denying things a little less.

Publicly exorcisin' all these skeletons in my closet, really appreciate that. Real considerate, how ya educate all these fine, upstandin' heroes about all the crap you think you know 'bout me.
[ If he wasn't so insulted, so betrayed, maybe he'd feel the resounding mortification, the utter self-loathing that lies beneath. But right now, the only thing burning him more than his fever-sick magic is his outrage. ]
But hey, you're bad at this. You're doin' this my own good. Guess that makes it all better.
Here's where you sigh like the misunderstood, long-suffering conceited prick you are.

That you love your brother? Gosh, big secret!
That you're a time traveler? Hey, guess who's been wearing that NEON SIGN over his head this whole time?
That you're not doing well? If you think the whole castle can't see it then you're blind!
Hey, yeah, how about I shut up and not say anything and let nature take its course. Because people ignoring the signs always works out so well in history, right?
I was just trying to tell you not to be a jerk to someone who's having a rough time. Now we're throwing down and you're probably ending a friendship 'cause I'm worried that you're gonna die?
PEOPLE CARE ABOUT YOU, YOU SELF LOATHING SACK OF BONES AND REGRET!

[ His skull is dotted with congealing waste magic. He doesn't bother to wipe away the sweat, even though it chills him (ha ha) to the bone.
On the bright side - he doesn't feel his aches anymore. He ain't feeling much of anything right now, just a frigid band of disbelief tightening around his ribs. ]
Look at you, so put-upon. Tryin' so hard to get through to this--what'd you call it? Guy circlin' the drain? Protecting the newbie. Because you care.
Ain't that sweet.
[ I trusted you. He keeps coming back to that, stunned. I trusted you.
And he's gonna be the bad guy in this? Well. Sure. Ok. This is just fine. None of this is gonna matter. ]
Least you could'a done is get your facts straight. Since you care so much.
See ya, gotta get back to waitin' to die, right?

I came to check on you, multiple times, to see what I could do. You brushed me off. You acted like you were fine, even as you were accumulating the signs YOU TOLD ME ABOUT!
How am I supposed to do the right thing when I don't know what it is?! How am I supposed to chart a course when I can't see?!
Sweet chaos, you even know I don't think like other people, don't understand, and still...

He's so...! ]

[ ...tired. ]
Nah. I'm done.
It was fun.
