So I was wondering...

Has anyone here been to a world that's not their own before? Or been to a place like this, with people from a lot of different worlds?

Also hands up if you've died before, I'm kind of curious. Since death's supposedly not permanent in this place, I was wondering. Bonus points if you've died in one of those worlds that brings in people from multiple worlds.

(Points are not going to actually be awarded, before you even ask.)

Yes. Twice now. Vatheon was the first world, the second was less of a world and more of the remnants of one that had suffered a great calamity that sent pieces of itself in to the sky.

People died and were brought back in Vatheon as it was meant to be an experiment of sorts. The same did not happen in the Bastion. People who died there were never seen or heard from again.

I never died myself, though.

Okay. So the second place... that sounds like it's pretty terrible.

But the first place - Vatheon? - did you at least manage to wreck the experiments and get them to stop?

We... made it work for us. And in the end it paid off, a new world was created for us. But you're not wrong.

And no, not exactly... actually to be perfectly honest I'm not entirely sure what happened to make us free.

Ah. The Tower had experiments, too... so I know how that goes.

A new world, though... sounds kind of... strange. I guess I'm lucky that I got to go home.

It's a disturbingly common theme in worlds that pull unsuspecting people from other universes I've noticed.

Unfortunately due to the calamity that resulted in the Bastion, going home wasn't an option anymore. Even if we are free to leave this place once finishing what we came here to do, Hilda, AZ, Zuko, Colin and I will only be going back to the Bastion's new world - not our respective homes.

... I don't know if home for me has a connection to your world or not. I'd offer to let you come with me to see if you could find it, but... if I did, I don't know if you'd be able to get back.

I doubt it... and the chances of our home being destroyed is very likely.

No problem. My world's kind of calm now. I know there's one place where there's probably going to be trouble, but if you stay out of that area it should be fine.

So if anyone wants to come with me... hopefully they can.

It's something to consider when we are closer to the end. Something to discuss with Ozuma at the very least.

We have options here. If nothing else I'm grateful that he's willing to do so much for us, rather than leaving us in a constant state of want or experimenting on us the way other places have.

Yeah. And the food apparently doesn't disappear here, which is nice. It's been a long time since I've been able to eat as much as I want.

I understand that feeling. Bastion, for a long time, didn't have much in the way of food. We made do but it is nice to not have to worry over whether or not a meal might be our last.

Yeah. Before I met Minato and the others, I pretty much scavenged my own food. Sometimes I stole it, but I tried not to do that too much...

You didn't get in trouble for stealing it?

It's hard to get caught when you grab day-olds during the time that electronics don't work. No cameras, no fingerprints that are in a database, no trail... no arrest. But like I said, I tried not to do that too much. Usually only when I couldn't find anything that wasn't rotten in a dumpster.

That sounds like an awful existence...

I did what I could. It wasn't great, but I survived. That was enough.

Here? No. I have people to get back to and answers to find. And then once that's over - however it ends - I have other things I need to do.

Hilda and I have been tossed around so much at this point I don't foresee us wanting to make yet another trip back unless there was some promise of this not happening to us again.

I can understand that, too. Sometimes you just want the 'interesting' things to stop, right?

I'm tired of "interesting", but at the moment there's little that can be done about it.
