(video) - feast in famine
[ Completely going against his own ideas about energy conservation (it's justified, he thinks, by the fact that it's solving one problem -- hunger), here's a short video from the mess hall.
Plenty of you already know the skeleton, short, round, slow, frequently grinning and looking like all those naps he takes isn't doing him any favors. ]
Heya.
So the kids have kept themselves busy putting together a little something to share with you guys. It's pretty souper.
[ That one's probably not too obvious, but he chuckles anyway, propping himself up on an elbow. ]
Come on down and check it out. Won't know what it is lentil you get here.
Heard a few of us are on bedrest, so, send a friend to fetch ya a bowl, ok?
See ya.
[ OOC: Open to responses over the network or you can mingle with each other in action threads. There will be a separate thread for the kids working on the soup earlier that they can backtag if they so desire. Come take the edge off your hunger with some soup made of whatever herbs and vegetables Nami and Ammy were able to get going in the garden and lentils to pad it out. ]

(Earlier... AKA the mingle thread for the kids making soup)
Some travelers come to a village, carrying nothing more than an empty cooking pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers are unwilling to share any of their food stores with the hungry travelers. Then the travelers go to a stream and fill the pot with water, drop a large stone in it, and place it over a fire.
One of the villagers becomes curious and asks what they are doing. The travelers answer that they are making "stone soup", which tastes wonderful, although it still needs a little bit of garnish to improve the flavor, which they are missing. The villager does not mind parting with a few carrots to help them out, so that gets added to the soup. Another villager walks by, inquiring about the pot, and the travelers again mention their stone soup which has not reached its full potential yet. The villager hands them a little bit of seasoning to help them out. More and more villagers walk by, each adding another ingredient.
Finally, the stone (being inedible) is removed from the pot, and a delicious and nourishing pot of soup is enjoyed by all. Although the travelers have thus tricked the villagers into sharing their food with them, they have successfully transformed it into a tasty and nutritious meal which they share with the donors. ]

How much do we have left of the beans? We can probably put in a whole bunch, right?
ota
He's prepared to be all up in this, helping out, making conversation, telling corny jokes. The sky is really the limit: Steven's happy to approach anyone to make this a Fun Group Activity if he can.
That said... at some point he will duck out, only to return with what may be a disproportionately large stone. For the soup. Get on the ball guys, there was a whole story about it, wow.
Well.
Stone or rubble, that's the real question. ]
Don't worry guys! I've got a feeling we can make this soup rock!

[Oh well, that's not the important question here. The important question is how awesome is this, and the answer to that is very awesome. Steven can make a glowy pink shield AND lift disproportionately huge stones? Fantastic. Undyne would be so proud.]
[Frisk thinks Steven probably isn't the suplexing-just-because-he-can type, though. They can respect that.]
[They have no need to call upon their own glowy powers, but there's a shining quality to the approving thumbs-up Frisk sends towards him anyway. You go Steven, what a proud and crowning moment.]
Give it a boulder flavor.

Amazing, how quickly they all get left to their own devices after that. Equally amazing, how quickly Chara proceeds to- boss everyone around.
Aside from pointed reminders, here and there (your continued unwieldy chopping habits show no signs of payoff), they also make a menace of themself in other ways; swiping goods already chopped when they think, quite reasonably, may they note, that enough carrots is enough, and a tense silence hangs in the air whenever they're within sight of Frisk.
Haha what do you mean, PA? There's no such thing in love and War, right, Frisk?
Your ship is gross and they're judging you. They're judging your every waking moment.]

Wade Wilson - OTA/Closed
[Wade has learned, even as far back as his mercenary days in his own world, to never say no to a free meal. One never knew when another chance to eat would come up again, after all, and getting a huge windfall after years of having slim pickings has made the sudden lack of food even harder to cope with.
At least he knows he won't die from it. That's not exactly a comforting thought. Visitors new and old will spot the emaciated mercenary either eyeing up the soup from afar or waiting in line for his turn. Feel free to chat him up. Just don't cut in front of him-- he will gouge eyes and stuff.]
[B - Closed to Sans]
[Once Wade has collected his bowls of soup (whether there was an incident or not is entirely up to the parties involved) and is making a leisurely yet purposeful beeline over to one of the tables, where he can see a distinct Sans-like shape lying slumped across it. He sinks down next to the slumbering skeleton, plopping one of the bowls down in front of Sans with a clunk and (in case that isn't enough to rouse him) reaching over to shake him gently by one shoulder.]

Masaomi Kida | OTA
It never seemed like, as compared to Tokyo. There were signs - the lack of money, the free stuff - but the fact they didn't get to chose what was there and the fact that technology had been so restricted made it have an illusion of scarcity.
This was scarcity.
And so, him and Linda (his Raichu, sitting beside him) come up to share a bowel, him intending to give a lion's share to her, but in the end splitting it. He's eyeing how everyone else is doing in the room, as well as whose supplying it. And if he can get ahold of either who made it or who supplied the goods for it, he has thanks to give!
... Hell, he's got reason to chat up anyone. He is still new here. But especially pretty girls. ]

Tim Wright | ota
So maybe "crowd" is a little bit dramatic in this case. It's not really a ton of people. It's a group, a collective at most. They're all chattering and talking like social people do. This is fine. This is normal for them.
Besides, he's heard the whispers and whatever everyone's been saying. The food here's started to go bad, and lentils don't go bad, and maybe Tim's used to running on empty but that doesn't mean he should. He hasn't eaten since yesterday, probably. Maybe. He thinks it was yesterday. Either way, he needs to eat. That much is obvious.
Tim eats furtively, quickly, like at any second he expects someone to show up and divest him of his seat, or possibly tell him that the soup wasn't meant for him and he shouldn't have taken what wasn't his to take.
It doesn't help things any that halfway through his impromptu meal, he starts to cough, hoarse and ragged and far too loud. He tries to muffle it as best as he can, hands clamped over his mouth, shaking in his seat, but his lungs are uncooperative.
And he knows in the pit of his gut that the only thing he can do when he gets like this is to wait it out.]

Max Caulfield - OTA, come at me broskis | But also Sans because Sans
So yeah, here is Maxine Caulfield, getting soup and sitting down to partake of the food offering. She's not really in a very social mood, but she'll be social if someone comes to talk to her, for sure. Otherwise, she's going to be a pretty unassuming teenager sitting over here. ]
[ sans ]
[ She'd noticed Sans passed out earlier, and had to wonder how long after their conversation he had passed out. She didn't bug him until after she finished her meal, but as soon as she had, she moved over and sat near him. ]

crona and ragnarok | ota
But there isn't here, so Crona doesn't eat as much. Little meals, sometimes, and Ragnarok complains and Crona sleeps a lot, and they both hope that someone finds more food. And then someone does, and when Crona (not wearing that armor anymore) comes down to where the food was before, there's food there now, a pot of soup that smells really, really good. Crona grabs a bowl, and carefully inches over towards the soup. They should be allowed to take some, right? No one's going to stop them?
But still, they're looking around, waiting for confirmation that this is all right.]

I think I'll bowl out of this one. I need something a little more filling than soup, 'ya know?
[ TWO COULD PLAY AT THIS GAME. ]
You'd bean missing out, pal. You sure?
[ Dipping his spoon into the bowl, he extracts it, then deposits its contents back into the bowl. There's the unmistakable tumble of flat, dark lentils, a few wilted, larger shapes of chopped vegetables, stuff they managed to glean from the garden. Some of them have been hard at work. Not Sans, though, all he did was supervise. (I.E., take a nap.) ]
At this point, I'd say clams that our pantry has enough to make something more filling are... incarrot.

Thanks for the PSA. I can move around now, but it's slow going. Make sure it's not all gone by the time I get there!

[Action]
[Resident Patient Protag makes her appearance, shuffling with careful baby steps into the Mess Hall, looking somewhat winded from her trip up the stairs. She's not as weak as she was when she first reawoke, but she still kinda looks like she got repeatedly kicked in the face by a muskox. Food will help.
There's a moderately bright smile on her face as she wobbles into line.]

And so, the 5'9, twenty year old young man with an overly baggy ugly white shirt and tight black pants which clash with those unfortunately (which might not have been what she was expecting of the boy doing silly stuff in text) waves for her, poking his head out (rudely) past the two or three people behind him to call out, ]

Wires stuck in her hair, a smudge of oil on one cheek and a screwdriver tucked behind one ear. She's been busy at work, and now might be a dangerous time to try and talk to her.
Even more dangerous to pun in her general direction.
