Okay, something I've been wondering.

How many of us, outside of this place, are tasked to save the world or whatever? There's some big evil or something coming and you're the only one or one of the few who can or will stand against it?

Bonus points for also having a predicted doom outside of that giant threat.

I was just curious if I was the only one whose life sounded like an awful fantasy novel.

Yeah, I guess so. It's kind of frustrating... I mean when I was little I wanted to be someone special but I knew that a lot of heroes didn't have happy endings.

It kind of sucks. Fighting evil or whatever isn't fun.

As far as I can tell from what I've seen, by earth media standards I would likely be categorized as a prominent character in a portion of a long-running RPG series. Not that I was ever the primary hero in this scenario, and either was or was playing the part of an antagonist in the last two major entries, which seems an unfortunately common role for my people, historically speaking...

Regardless, human centrism of tales aside, the predicted doom that I know of was always something directly related to the threat.

Of course, that hardly matters now that I'm the last survivor of the doom that wasn't predicted, but I digress.

The short answer is yes, I was involved with saving the world multiple times.

'Cause I've actually got a fee structure set up for tax purposes for saving a world... It's rarely cheap work.

Uh, just the one, as far as I know, though it's got associated planes of existence attached to it.

... I guess if you're good at it, setting up a fee structure would work. I think my only real personal benefit aside from occasional free room and board is I got to come back to life once. Which is a pretty good benefit, I guess.

It's an awkwardly posed question, but she's going to give Casper the benefit of the doubt that it was a genuine curiosity and/or he's an equally awkward person. Fair enough there. It's the responses that has her raise an eyebrow. She's not sure how many of them would even still be watching this, but it dictates her reply in any case.]

Wow, that's really something. I didn't realize we had so many capable people in the castle.

If it helps I know some people who skirt the line, and I'm not even trying to say that all heroes are good. Much as my life sounds like a shitty fantasy novel I know it's not that simple.

"Only one or one of the few" would be severely downplaying the efforts of every single Pact solider in my world. However it is the team that I work with that has made the most progress against the Elder Dragons and other beings that have threatened Tyria and continue to do so. It's hardly a battle that will be over quickly, though. Honestly if there was only one "big evil" in place it would be a relief to us all. It's nice to know we're not all alone in dealing with such high stakes, though.

Um. Between the first time SHE did it, and then me doing it with the snake, and then the extension of that into the Invasion proper... well, that probably only counts once. So. I've done the job twice so far? And I'm more or less on call for the rest of my life for it? I'm part of a group of several dozen across the whole world - once upon a time, there were more of us, but things happened, and the final battle was a fair bit less crowded.

But at least the all-powerful creator being that was causing the last one said he'd leave us alone, so there's that.
