So I was wondering...

Has anyone here been to a world that's not their own before? Or been to a place like this, with people from a lot of different worlds?

Also hands up if you've died before, I'm kind of curious. Since death's supposedly not permanent in this place, I was wondering. Bonus points if you've died in one of those worlds that brings in people from multiple worlds.

(Points are not going to actually be awarded, before you even ask.)

Yeah. We all got to know most of each other in passing.

This place, Vatheon - he said there were experiments. What kind of experiments?

We weren't there for very long, but from what I remember they put us through different strange experiences just to see how we would react ... we lived in a bubble beneath the sea. The experiences ranged anywhere from silly to deadly.

So not a Tower... not the same world, then.

... Experiments suck. There's none of that here, right?

Not that I'm aware of. Ozuma is a strange one, but he seems genuine. I think we can trust him.

Anyway, when the experiments were concluded in Vatheon, the scientists decided they didn't need to keep the test subjects. They were going to kill all of us. We found out and fought back. Afterward, those of us who chose to leave were going to go back home, but ... en route to our world, N and I crashed on the Skyway of the Bastion. From there we were told that our world was destroyed by something called the Calamity.

... So those worlds were connected... and the 'Calamity'... you couldn't find a way to reverse it?

Well ...

The possibility was there to restore things to the way they were before the Calamity. Nobody knows how to prevent it from happening, though, so it would have just happened again.

In the end, a new home for us was born. We were planning to settle down there for however long we had left to live, but I guess we're the eternal joke of the multiverse or something. Clearly it had other plans.

Ah. Our problem with our worlds was fixable. It sucks that it didn't work that way for you.

I was planning on settling down a little after I took care of things at home, but I guess you're not the only multiverse joke.

I guess we're both multiverse jokes. Yay?

Anyway, I really hope this is the last world we get punted to. I'm really tired of having to restart my life every where I go.

There was once a time where I was totally into traveling and everything, and maybe I'll get to that point again sometime, but being bounced from world to world kind of takes the novelty out of traveling.

Yeah, I can understand that. I like exploring, but I've done enough clearing of dark and spooky places for a lifetime. I mean I'll do it, but I won't really like it.

Mhm. I got married back in the Bastion and we still haven't really had a proper honeymoon ...

Though honestly, N and I probably wouldn't even know the first thing to do on a honeymoon. It'd probably just turn into hanging out and going 'now what'.

We are the most awkward married couple.

I haven't even ever gone on a date so I can't even start to help you on that one. I'm actually 14 but physically 11. So even if I wanted to go on a date I don't think anyone would want to.

Then again, I look younger than I actually am, too. I haven't really had an attraction to anyone but my husband, though, so I guess that worked in my favor ... before, I didn't even really think about romance as an option for me. Or at all, really.

I've had... maybe two crushes? And one of them, someone in the Tower made it feel like time had gone past so we looked older and we were dating I guess. But then things went back to normal and it was weird. Especially since she's the little sister of someone I think of as a brother.

But I'm probably going to have to deal with that mess all over again. I went through puberty in clone bodies in that place. It wasn't fun.

That sounds really awkward.

Well, uh ... I guess you have others to share the pain of puberty with here? And those of us who are technically still going through it.

I'm sixteen, by the way. So, yeah. Technically still figuring life out. Kids in my world tend to grow up pretty quickly, though.

Yeah? Kids in my world aren't... supposed to. But I don't think of myself as a kid anymore. I was on my own when I was nine.

There are kids in other regions of my world that start on their journey when they're as young as 10. I started when I was 14.

... What, so they just... leave home? Your world must be pretty safe.

Not necessarily. It's just customary for children to leave and start a Pokemon journey if they want to. They receive a starter Pokemon, then they go and befriend other Pokemon, and ... do whatever they want with that. Many choose to battle Gym Leaders and get their badges, then enter the Pokemon League so they can prove they have what it takes to be the best of the best at Pokemon. Others enter their Pokemon into contests, or musicals, or they decide they want to become breeders ... we basically start the rest of our lives from a young age.

Oh, so you just all grow up earlier. Huh.

... What's a Pokemon?

Oh, right. I forgot not everyone know what they are. Uh. Hold on.

[ Switching to video! And suddenly, there is a cute furry face in the camera. ]

She looks kind of like a puppy... or a fox...

So there's... a lot of them, where you're from?

Yeah. My region in particular has over 600 documented species of Pokemon. My Dad's region has even more than that.

That's a lot of different kinds of animals...

Yeah, definitely. Some people are crazy enough to want to catch all of the different species. As much as I really love Pokemon, though, I think I'm content to just be friends with them. If they want to stay with me, I leave it up to them.

I think that's probably best. You wouldn't want to force them to stay if they didn't want to...
